Just A Click Away
As Rebecca drove to work, she couldn't help but smile. Just a night ago, she'd wished Monday away into non-existence so she could have a long rest after having one of the most amazing hangouts with her best friend Bolu. From playing volleyball at the beach shore to horse riding, the night was capped with two great hours of dancing at the club. They both knew they had to be at work on Monday but nobody cared.
The call that lifted her spirit came at about 4am, just after she snoozed her alarm for the fourth time that morning. She was just too tired to get ready for work. Still groggy from sleep, she picked the call and heard his voice. That deep sensual voice that always strums the strings of her heart whenever it filled her ears. It was her diaspora lover calling. He was coming to town!
She smiled all the way through work that day, pumped with adrenaline and completing every task with the speed and accuracy of a machine.
After work, Rebecca was knackered. From her office window, she could see traffic building up, so the wise thing to do was to wait for it to reduce before heading home. Typical of Mondays, she was too busy to check her phone notifications. The first message she checked was from Gbenga, her diaspora lover. The reason for his visit to Nigeria was to stand as the bestman at his friend's wedding on Saturday. He'd sent the venue details via BBM as well as a picture of himself at work. As usual, he expected her to return the gesture with a picture. As she posed for a selfie, it dawned on her!
Rebecca and Gbenga have been exchanging pictures since they started their affair before he travelled to England 6months ago. Without stepping into her closet, Gbenga knew her entire wardrobe, thanks to the internet. If she was to attend the wedding on Saturday, she'd need a new native outfit. In an instant, all her excitement fizzled out like hot fart from yokozuna.
Then she remembered an advert on social media about an indigenous online fabric store with a collection of collection of Aso Oke fabrics, George, Adire/Kampala, Lace and Ankara and other materials. The advert also said they had a fast delivery service with a secure online payment portal and also accept payment on delivery. Knowing that was her last option and potential messaiah, she quickly typed the URL on her browser to shop for a nice fabric.
She walked up to him beaming and he smiled as his eyes ravaged her body, taking in every inch of the beautiful cloth she wore. While the reception was on, he suddenly pulled her to the middle of the hall, knelt down and did the most beautiful thing a woman could ever ask for.
